I had to screw the end-stop trigger screws (last step) in until they almost hit the horizontal ball joint screws. Otherwise, the end-stops were at an angle and collided with the upper frame, rather than going through the hole.
Also, it'd be good to specify that you're splicing with the two white wires at the top of the X tower, as the also come out the bottom.
I'm out of 1/8" heat shrink tubing. I believe the last use of it said to cut the 30mm length in half and use both halves.
This finally worked for me: spray silicone lubricant into the X tower, run the two white cables through (taped ends together), spray more lubricant in the tower, feed the black cable through. It's still a tight fit but doable though my grip strength was giving out after 30m of struggling with this tower beforehand.
I used a flathead screwdriver to pry the nut slots open. This made the insertions go a lot faster.
I recommend using the longest cut lead you have for this splice! Otherwise, your newly soldered lead may not reach its plug in a later step.
I had to plug in the layer fan (step 56) before screwing these parts together because the wires was too short.
Do not cut the PTFE tubing into two 50mm sections, just cut it in half. 50mm was too short to cover one thermistor wire in my build.
